Advertising your Pet Sitting Business

GSD on fence

As pet sitting is a business that is relatively new and you have no 'shop' to advertise in, you have to be quite thoughtful in the way you raise the profile of your business.

wThe first place to start is by developing a supportive relationship with local vets, behaviourists, dog groomers, breeders and pet shop owners. Approach them to discuss the service you offer. Once they trust you and are assured of your capabilities, ask if you can leave promotional flyers, leaflets or business cards with them and put up a few posters.

wOnce you start with a few clients and they trust you, your best form of advertising after this will be these valued clients. Word of mouth is so important, so look after your clients well.

wUse the everyday household fridge to advertise your business. A fridge magnet is such a simple but effective advertising tool. They are easy to make and if you produce one that is colourful with a sweet kitten or puppy on it; families will be more than happy to adorn their fridge with it. Your valuable contact phone number will then always be on hand.

wYou can show how much you love animals by becoming involved with a local rescue centre or animal charity. Supporting their events and even organising fundraising events of your own can bring you valuable publicity. Visit CIWF charity.

wTake part in national events such as National Pet Week and organise activities during this time as these will attract the attention of public and press and can be a fun way of promoting your business.

wThink of taking an exhibitor's stand at local dog shows or country events.

wGiving entertaining and informative talks to interested groups can be an enjoyable way to promote you and your service and spread responsible pet care at the same time. Use my pet care notes to help you with these. Approach local pet clubs and breeders' societies to decide on the local levels of interest.

wAdvertising with the local newspaper or yellow pages can be very costly but may help just before the summer holidays for example if you are just starting out. Remember your local newspapers, magazines and free-Ads.

wAnd finally..... let me do all your advertising via your own unique website. I provide links to all local vets and places of interest as well as using important keywords to ensure that you are found by the large search engines. Use your new domain name on all your leaflets and business cards and have stickers made advertising your domain on your car - the best form of local visual advertising.
