Is pet sitting for me?

You obviously need to be passionate about animals.

As many hours are spent exercising and entertaining pets, you need to be physically fit.

Your customers will look at two main things from you. They must trust you completely as they are leaving their homes and valuable family pets in your care and they must see that you get on well with their pets.

You need to not only love animals but also have a good general knowledge of their care.

You need to be confident when handling pets and be able to look after a number of different species. You should have a good knowledge of all pets and understand the daily needs of most domestic animals and know how to manage a crisis affecting one or all of them. Use my website to help you with any queries you may have.

As some pet owners will be very particular with their demands, you must be very tolerant of people and have natural tact and skills with people management to keep your clients happy. A nature that wants to please is a must as well as a good sense of humour and patience.

You must be prepared to sacrifice many hours to this career. You may be away from home for weeks at a time and you will need to manage your own pets and home accordingly. You will seldom have a settled working routine and you must be able to cope with this uncertainty and be very flexible with your time. Remember, most of your work is during normal holiday time, so be prepared to take your free time and holidays out of season.

You must enjoy your own company and obviously the company of animals as your days can get lonely if you are just seeing animals. If you are sociable with people, include dog walking in your routine so that you see the owners on a regular basis

You must enjoy spending time outdoors.

You must have the confidence to become your own boss and be able to have the discipline to manage your time effectively.

If you are happy that you satisfy most of these requirements, then with my help, pet sitting is for you!
